Many smart shoppers are interested in eco-clothing these days. The types of materials used in products as well as how they are manufactured are becoming increasingly important to people. Additionally, incorporating materials from sustainable resources into their products is becoming more common among designers.

Supporting products that are organic, recycled, or created with as little waste as possible is important to many consumers. Once the demand for an alternative product increases, manufacturers have no choice but to make more of it. Many modern consumers eagerly seek products that are created with the intention of having a small carbon footprint.

Currently, however, eco-clothing enjoys only a tiny market share in the fashion industry — which means it could take several years for these products to go mainstream. Although eco-clothing is more expensive than its standard counterparts, it has an advantage over the competition in that it is stronger, lasts longer, and is of higher quality.

Eco-clothing is available in various types. These items are typically made from natural materials like leather alternatives, bamboo, soy, and organic cotton.

Bamboo fabric is a material commonly used in the making of eco-clothing. It is a natural textile, made from the pulp of the bamboo. It is both strong and light at the same time, which makes it a viable alternative fabric, for clothing use.

Before it is spun, bamboo fiber looks much like cotton. In addition to being grown without the use of insecticides, bamboo grass can grow quickly. Additionally, chemicals and bleaches that can harm the environment are not needed in the process of making bamboo fiber.

Because it is so quick-growing, bamboo can be replaced soon after harvesting. Since any living plant produces oxygen, a plant that grows back quickly after being cut down is good for helping maintain oxygen levels in the environment.

Eco-clothing is also often made from organic cotton. Similar to regular cotton, its organic counterpart is grown without the application of pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Because it replenishes well and allows the soil to maintain its fertility, growing organic cotton has a low impact on the environment. Because organic cotton is gaining acceptance, more cotton farmers are switching to organic methods.

Eco-clothing can also be made from recycled fleece. Recycled soda bottles are used to make this type of fabric. Despite the fact that it is not a natural fiber, this type of fleece is considered environmentally friendly since it’s made of recycled materials. Recycled fleece is used to make outerwear, soft-soled baby shoes, and diaper covers.

These are just a few of the different types of eco-clothing currently available on the market. There are still other types of eco-clothing out there.

When you’re shopping, make sure to check clothing labels to see what your new garments are made of. If you want to be socially and environmentally responsible, buying and using eco-clothing is the right thing to do.
