Taking Care Of Your Christmas Lights
Those eagerly awaiting Christmas know that they’re going to have to put up decorations again this year, and the most common of these is Christmas lights. Most people however don’t know the first thing about untangling or storing their Christmas lights in a safe and effective manner. I want to teach you the basics of caring for your Christmas lights and what you can do to make your Christmas a safer holiday this year.
Untangling Christmas lights can be such a frustrating ordeal that none of us really want to do it; but in order to bring about that Christmas cheer we all try our best at untangling our Christmas lights. What you need to do first and foremost is calm down and take a deep breath. Be sure to find a relaxing spot and get comfortable; I usually do this next to my fireplace. Put on a movie or a television show to keep yourself from experiencing anxiety. Music is good too.
What you need to do next is rummage through your storage and dig your Christmas lights out. This can be a very frustrating experience in itself and it’s best to have a friend or family member helping you out. After you get all the Christmas lights out you need to find the spot I talked about earlier and sit them on your lap. Now unplug all the connections and find a free end. Make all the knots loose and carefully wind the free end through the tangles. Don’t rush or force yourself through the process. Let the untangled lights slip to the floor while taking your time and gently away from the remaining tangles on your lap. Once you get the entire string untangled, lay it out on the floor in a straight line.
When you’re putting the Christmas lights away, don’t try to force all of them in at once. You’ll just tangle them again and that’s what we’ve been trying to avoid all along. Wind the Christmas lights in a coil around a piece of cardboard to prevent new tangles from emerging when you start to store the Christmas lights. You’ll likely end up with a lot of bundles if you only wind one strand per piece.
Safety should be your first concern when dealing with Christmas lights. We all want a fun filled holiday season and don’t want to have to worry about the mess known as Christmas lights. I hope this article has helped you and I hope you have a good Christmas.
